Experience the class and elegance of a matt kitchen

Like a softer, more subtle feel to your kitchen?  Matt could be the answer.

A matt finish gives an understated elegance that can be used to great effect in both contemporary and traditional kitchen design.

Modern matt and country chic

For contemporary designs, a matt finish brings a professional-kitchen vibe. Matt concrete cabinets with textured matt worktops offer industrial style. Or try blending textured matt with metallic surfaces for urban chic.

However, if you feel that’s too stark or cold for your tastes, but you still want a modern kitchen, try combining a matt finish with handle-less cabinets. This combination provides an efficient, clean kitchen design.

Matt works equally well as a finish on country-style cabinets and worktops. Instead of high-gloss chic, it provides a softness that’s perfect if you’re trying to create a laid-back, informal vibe in your kitchen.

Matt brings homespun charm to traditional kitchen designs as it’s warmer than gloss. If you prefer a rustic kitchen, you can create a country look by blending pale woodgrain cabinets with stone-effect textured matt worktops.

Benefits of a matt finish

A significant advantage of a matt finish over gloss is that it doesn’t show up fingerprints and smudges. A textured matt surface is very forgiving and will disguise a multitude of stains and marks.

Another benefit is that matt lends itself to many colours. As a result, you’ll have a much wider palette to choose from when deciding on décor.

When decorating a smaller kitchen, textured matt cabinets in paler colours give a feeling of openness. In larger kitchens, you can be more daring and experiment with brighter or darker matt colours to create a distinct style.

If you have the space, dark blue or grey matt cabinets can be contrasted with soft grey or white worksurfaces. Alternatively, pale stone or white cabinets can be combined with dark textured matt worktops.

Matt is warmer and more welcoming than gloss. And easier to keep clean than a high gloss finish.

Harmonise with other matt textures and gloss finishes

Matt is becoming increasingly popular because it blends well with textured materials such as stone and wood effect finishes.

Concrete and stone finishes are continually used in kitchen design as they give a hardwearing look that matches the active environment of the room. Matt cabinets are perfect alongside stone or concrete worktops and flooring.

In particular, when it comes to flooring, stone and concrete offer the durable and practical finish that’s easy to maintain in a heavily used kitchen. A textured matt finish on your kitchen cabinets will harmonise with the pattern and character of your stone-effect flooring.

Of course, you can have the best of both worlds and combine matt with gloss. On its own, gloss can sometimes reflect too much light if used throughout the kitchen.

For a subtler effect, combine gloss cabinets with matt worktops or vice versa. This creates a more balanced, relaxing environment.
