A kitchen as fresh as a sea breeze

Bring a fresh summer sea breeze into your kitchen.

Light cabinets, splashes of blue and soft shades can turn the most hectic kitchen into a calm and relaxing oasis.

White and light kitchen cabinets

One of the most popular colours for kitchen cabinets is white because it’s clean and versatile.

The Speed Nobilia kitchen range comes in Alpine White, White Soft Matt, Ivory Soft Matt, and Satin Grey. Stunning to look at, the sleek lines and choice of subtle shades provide a design that can be blended with a wide array of colours and accessories.

Neutral shades make it easy to harmonise worktops and décor to bring a fresh, breezy look to a kitchen. And if you want something different to white, light wood cabinets offer a natural outdoor feel.

The Natura kitchen collection of wood reproductions has a light oak finish for a natural Scandinavian-inspired look. The range has been designed to reflect harmony and wellbeing.

Natura’s single finish choice of Oak Montreal reproduction with a lacquered laminate composition has an authentic appearance thanks to its texture and character. The feel of the light oak effect front is remarkably close to that of real wood.

Sea breeze colour schemes

You don’t have to confine yourself to neutral shades to achieve a fresh and airy feel. Marine shades of blue, from navy to aquamarine, give a sense of the sea and wide-open spaces. The overall effect is one of serenity and calm with a sense of light and air.

You don’t need to avoid darker shades such as navy if they’re combined with softer colours and light-enhancing materials. Large reflective splashbacks help to lighten the impact made by dark colours.

Gloss and metallic finishes

High gloss cabinets will bounce light around to provide a feeling of space. High shine worktops also reflect natural light.

Other kitchen accessories such as stainless-steel splashbacks and appliances can help to move light around the room. Mirrors reflect light back into the room, while glass-fronted cabinets and glass shelving with mirrored backs give the impression of floating and accentuate natural and artificial light.

Even smaller accessories such as chrome handles and large stainless steel pendant light shades can create bright focal points.

Natural and artificial light

Make the most of any natural light from windows and doors and see if you can increase it. You can transform a kitchen by introducing a new source of natural light.

For example, changing a window into a French window or fitting a skylight will allow much more light to enter the room. Even replacing an internal wooden door with a glass-panelled one will offer additional brightness.

If you can’t add more natural light sources, you can always increase artificial light. LEDs are cheap to run and provide subtle luminosity. You can inset LED spotlights into ceilings or fit strip LEDs under and above cabinets.

Plaster LED uplights will help accentuate a room’s height and bring extra dimensions to a small kitchen.
