What is trending in kitchens in 2025?
Trends in kitchen design have kept us all on our toes over the years. It was in the 1990s that the minimalist look became popular, and it still is today. We didn’t want our counter-top appliances on show; we wanted smooth surfaces that were clutter-free.
White kitchen appliances were also a big trend in the 90s. Since then, manufacturers have tempted us with various colours in appliances, some of which are still popular if they make a statement. However, now the trend is very much to hide appliances away to create uninterrupted sleek lines that exude style and elegance.
People also wanted to entertain and socialise more at home back in the 90s, which was when the adoption of the kitchen island came into the design. It brought friends and family together into one space and added counter and work space into the kitchen.
This is another trend that has continued in popularity, and never more so than during the pandemic, when families spent more time at home together than ever before.
Another trend in the 90s that (thankfully!) didn’t stick around for too long was brass hardware. Country oak-style designs were all the rage, and combining brass hardware with oak was thought to create a warm and soothing atmosphere.
We beg to differ!
In 2025, kitchen design is all about embracing bolder colour combinations, earthy tones, texture, and natural materials—while maintaining the practicality and organisation we’ve come to value.
1. Bold Colour Combinations
Move over all-white kitchens—2025 is bringing vibrant and unexpected colour pairings to the forefront. Greens, blues, and earthy browns dominate, creating a harmonious connection to nature while adding warmth and personality. These bold choices make your kitchen a true reflection of your style.
2. Texture Takes Centre Stage
Adding texture to your kitchen is a key trend this year. From textured cabinetry finishes to rough-hewn timber accents and stone surfaces, texture adds depth and tactile appeal to the space. For example, matte concrete worktops and natural stone backsplashes provide a beautiful contrast to smooth, sleek elements.
3. Natural, Sustainable Materials
In 2025, sustainability continues to be a priority. Natural materials like timber, stone, and recycled elements are at the heart of modern kitchen designs. These materials not only reduce environmental impact but also create a timeless, grounded aesthetic that feels both luxurious and eco-friendly.
4. Hidden Storage and Concealed Utilities
As our lives become busier, smart storage solutions are evolving. Pocket doors that reveal hidden spaces, such as appliance garages or walk-in pantries, are becoming increasingly popular. These designs allow for a seamless, clutter-free appearance while maximising functionality.
5. Personalised Storage Solutions
Gone are the days of generic storage options. In 2025, homeowners are looking for tailored solutions that cater to their specific needs. Customised pull-out racks, rotational shelves, and bespoke cabinetry ensure that every item has its place, keeping your kitchen organised and efficient.
6. Pantries Make a Comeback
The standalone pantry is back and better than ever. Whether it’s a small dedicated cupboard or a larger walk-in design, pantries are perfect for storing dry goods, appliances, and more—all neatly out of sight but easily accessible.
