What is it that makes some kitchens stand out from others?
It’s those creative touches that give a kitchen its individuality. Here we look at five finishes that will give your kitchen design the ‘Wow’ factor.
For a contemporary feel, take your cabinets to the top. Not only does this produce a stunning look, it’s also highly practical as you gain more storage space.
With their tall dimensions, full-height cabinets give your kitchen a streamlined look and a sense of space. And as you now have a place to store cooking equipment that you don’t use very often, your kitchen feels more organised and less cluttered.
For smooth lines and precise edges, why not choose handless cabinets and drawers?
Integrated recess handles give a linear look, so the flow of your kitchen units is uninterrupted. This makes it easy to move around with no risk of catching on handles or knobs. It’s also visually stunning, creating a minimalistic, classic feel that won’t date.
Replace handles that attract grime and are awkward to clean with push-to-open mechanisms, finger pulls, soft closing hinges or even electric mechanisms on electronic handleless doors.
There are now many different kinds of lighting and light fittings you can choose from. And it’s easy to combine more than one type in your kitchen.
Lighting dictates the ambience of a room, and it can highlight different locations. Why not have spotlights above the area where you cook, and a pendant light above the table where you eat?
Your lighting scheme should match the illumination to your activity. For instance, spotlights and under-cabinet lights will give you clear visibility when you’re preparing and cooking food. Then when you’re eating, these can be switched off and a low hanging pendant light above the table will provide a warm, intimate glow.
As well as functionality, your taps can add style to your sink. There are now hundreds of types to choose from.
A simple, single mixer tap is ideal for minimalist, ergonomic kitchens. Alternatively, an ornate set of vintage cross-head taps in bronze or copper can add a period feel to a traditional kitchen design. Or choose chunky, block taps in a geometrical shape for highly modern kitchens.
An In-frame cabinet is designed so that the frame is attached to the front edge of a kitchen unit. The doors are then placed inside the 36mm frame so that they open within it. These units require special hinges to allow the doors and drawer fronts to open in the frames.
In-frame kitchens are currently popular thanks to their strong design structure and durability. They’re also highly practical as they’re easy to refurbish if you want a refresh. You can simply change your colour scheme rather than having to replace the units themselves.
