Covid-19 results in new rules from the Financial Conduct Authority

The new rules created by the FCA are designed to give consumers ‘breathing space’ during this incredibly challenging time.

The Guardian recently reported that the new ruling has put a freeze on UK loans and credit card repayments, and this was extended to other forms of credit such as store cards and catalogue credit on 14th April.

Lenders will be expected to offer a payment freeze for up to 3 months for consumers affected by the coronavirus. Banks have also been told they can’t suspend cards during this period.

If you have a personal loan you can ask for a freeze on repayments for 3 months. You can also apply for a 3 month mortgage holiday, although you will still have to pay the accrued interest once the deferral period ends.

You will need to get in touch with your lender to request a payment freeze on outstanding debt, and this will not affect your credit score.

During lockdown, delivery of your kitchen can be made as long as you can sign a Personal Declaration to state that your order is ‘essential’ and that you have are not suffering with Covid-19 and have not been in contact with anyone known to have Covid-19 in the last 14 days.
