Full-on rustic or more contemporary design.
Country style kitchens have never gone out of fashion as they offer a warm, cosy and natural environment.
From traditional floor tiles to beamed ceilings, country style can be full-on rustic or more contemporary in its design.
Delicately profiled framed cabinet doors and framed glass doors provide classic country character. Natural wood finishes combined with pastel colours, traditional plaids or floral designs can accentuate the look.
Alternatively, white Shaker-style cabinets and drawers will give a clean, simple and stylish take on country style. These can be painted white or a soft neutral shade. For a relaxed, informal quality try contemporary wood décor such as nautical pine reproduction reminiscent of sun-bleached driftwood aged by wind and weather.
Pine or oak cabinets provide both warmth and texture. Real wood fronts bring a solid, high-quality appearance to any kitchen whether you want contemporary, relaxed country chic or a traditional, classic cottage design.
Solid oak kitchen cabinets combined with granite worktops look warm and welcoming. The natural patterns in the oak and the granite bring character and personality to any design.
Although oak is both rustic and wholesome, it can be overpowering despite its beauty. If you want to soften the appearance of a solid oak kitchen, you can introduce open shelves in between cabinets.
When you use oak as a backdrop for either traditional or modern designs, you can play around with accessories and let them dictate the theme of the kitchen.
Open shelving is a classic feature of a country style kitchen. Lovely dressers or sideboards allow you to create eye-catching displays of traditional crockery or copper pots and pans. Feature pieces such as large decorated plates or vintage coffee grinders can be put on show.
Open shelves and dressers also help to break up an expanse of cabinet fronts. Or you could intersperse with a single or pair of glass-fronted cabinets to create a more open effect.
Opt for creams, pale greens and beiges rather than white. If you have wooden flooring, an earthy shade on the walls will complement the beauty of the timber.
Soft yellows, greens or blues can give a natural outdoor feel and blend in well with the wood tones of pine or oak cabinets. The colours you choose should reflect nature to bring a relaxed, understated vibe to the kitchen design.
It’s not just the walls that can be coloured with subtle shades. Rather than a stark white fridge, you can now find retro refrigerators in soft cream and pastel shades. These will seamlessly blend into a country style kitchen.
And if you love cooking, an Aga or cooking range will heighten the country-feel. As well as looking stylish, it will keep the kitchen warm in winter.
There are now some truly stunning sinks and taps to choose from. The traditional Butler-style Belfast ceramic kitchen sink is perennially popular. Its deep rectangular shape is synonymous with country living.
These can be bought new or reclaimed. If you buy new, there are some chic adaptions of the Butler sink that have a traditional design with a modern twist. Copper taps could also be added to give that rustic feel.
We can design the kitchen you want, one that’s perfectly suited to your lifestyle and home.
